Google Social Networking Sites

Google understands the power of great social networking sites like FaceBook and MySpace. In the past, Google has attempted to create its own rival social networking site with Google Profiles. Google even endevored to purchase a portion of FaceBook to no avail. Now there’s talk that a "Google Me" project (that for all we know is well underway) that might give FaceBook and MySpace a run for their money.

Current Google social networking elements:

  1. Google Profile: This is a public page where you can share your information with the world. It allows you to promote your Flickr account, Twitter, LinkedIn, FaceBook and others. Even with all this flexibility, Google Profile is not the rival to FaceBook as Google had hoped it would be.
  2. According to Google, this feature allows you to find "relevant public content from your friends and contacts and highlights it for you at the bottom of your search results.”
  3. Google BuzzA new way to share videos, photos and more by using Gmail. Buzz can play videos directly in the message and pulls photos from other websites for sharing.

Users will have to wait and see what Google launches in the future. They need a hub that is highly marketed and the next best thing to help people get on board.
