Research released by Chitika Insights promoted the importance of local and mobile search, shedding new light on just how important the type of search is becoming. The key highlights indicated 43 percent of all search volume through the Google Search engine had a local intent. Bing and Yahoo showed 25 percent all search queries are local. The overall stats include PC’s and mobile users combined, but when we take a deeper look at local mobile search- the numbers are enough to influence you to go mobile right now!
Nearly half the web population is searching locally, but the majority are searching local on a mobile device. The research showed 74 percent of all local search queries occur on a mobile device. What happens when the user finds what they are looking for? In the travel industry, it could be the difference between your potential customer booking or not booking the trip to your location.
Whether the traveler is looking for local reviews or prices of their destination, they are going to end up at your website to book their trip. If the traveler has a bad experience on their mobile device when trying to book their vacation, it could deter them from wanting to stay at your property. Travel survey results shared by Google indicated that the number one deterrent for customers in choosing a destination is a bad mobile website. A whopping 57 percent of mobile searchers chose another website to book their trip as a result of a poorly-designed mobile site.
Mobile sites will undoubtedly deter your potential customers, but there’s also some positive reinforcement for the travel industry to go mobile. In the study we highlighted below, it’s important to note that mobile users- specifically tablet users, spend more money per transaction. Tablet users spend 54 percent more than smartphone users and 21 percent more than desktop users per purchase. For the travel industry, up selling vacation packages is a no-brainer. Maybe it’s because tablet users sitting on the couch literally feel like the deal just fell into their lap...
If you aren’t convinced by now, we have one more fact that will put mobile into perspective for you. Nearly 90 percent of consumers use a mobile device to accomplish a task. Roughly half of those individuals are using their mobile device to plan their travel adventure.
What does this mean to you? Well, if you don’t have a mobile website, it means you need to join the revolution!
